Preview: Sega's stab at using Nintendo's new Dual Screen technology.

More than anything else, Nintendo's upcoming DS is pushing to change the way that games are played. Not settling for a new system that simply does more of the same, Nintendo is working in a slew of new features for the ambitious portable unit, many of which have never been applied to video games before. Of course, the gaming industry has been buzzing about the possibilities of this new technology for months but it is Sega, Nintendo's one-time rival, who will be breaking the rules come next week's DS launch.

At it's very heart, Feel the Magic: XY/XX is a step away from being a, "normal," videogame. Take the story, in which players enlist the help of a clan of rabbit inspired performers to attract the attention of his heart's desire. With the "Rub Rabbits" at his side, the protagonist will defend himself against raging bulls and blow out giant candles in an effort to draw the interest of the girl, only to find that keeping her interest away from a rival will be just as eclectic. Leave it to Sega to mix humor and love into a pie that tastes like an action game.

Feel the Magic: XY/XX, as a launch title for the Nintendo DS, has the unique opportunity of being one of the first games to take advantage of the system's peerless features. XY/XX will utilize each of the different input methods including the d-pad, the stylus, and the voice recognizing microphone. To compliment this ambition, Sega's cutting edge art style will be spread across the dual screens, expanding the playing field and mixing in a slew of opportunities for gameplay variety.

Final Thoughts
Feel the Magic: XY/XX is going to be the epitome of gameplay evolution that the DS is hoping to promote. Utilizing everything from the touch screen to the microphone, XY/XX is thinking outside the box that traditionally has simply sat next to our television. Sega is use to breaking boundaries with their games and Feel the Magic: XY/XX is poised to do just that.
