News: Is it a pre-E3 Square Enix leak? Stop ruining my surprises!

A possible pre-E3 Square Enix leak surfaced this week. Destructoid's Nick Chester reported on information sent to him by a reader ? details from a survey the reader had taken, detailing a game called NANO. This action-adventure game will be released on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, and takes place in the year 2044. Hugo Glass, the protagonist, grew up privileged but left his old life behind to find himself. Like so many self-searching journeys, he ends up in jail in Thailand and is later accused of murdering his own family and swears revenge.

This is where things start to get intense. Hugo can control not just weapons but also Nanobots. Nanobots! How rad is that? He can use his Nanobots to do many things, like make himself more powerful, investigate the deaths of his family, and ?brainjack? into people's heads. I think I said ?rad? too soon.

What, exactly, does this have to do with Square Enix? Well, for one thing, a video was released on the web on Saturday, with a logo from Nerkas Solutions Inc. NERKAS.com is owned by Square Enix Europe, formerly known as Eidos plc. Secondly, Square Enix filed two trademarks a few months ago ? one for ?Mindjack? and another for ?Mindhack.?

Of course, these could just be coincidences. But after watching the video and reading about the game, I have to say I hope Square Enix is all over this. I'd love to see them come out with a new IP. Then again, I hate spoiled surprises. It's like Christmas as a kid all over again, with my mom hiding my presents in my closet. Can't the industry hide things where we won't find them?

Here's the full game information from the survey:

"Arriving to the X360, PS3 and PC is NANO, a new action-adventure game that embarks players on a unique journey across the world and the infinitely small yet complex and mysterious universe of the human body.

Set in the year 2044, the player takes on the role of Hugo Glass ? a man from a wealthy family but leaves his identity behind to find his purpose in life. Hot tempered and righteous, he travels around the world until he finds himself in jail after defending villagers against corruption in Thailand. When he is released, he finds himself involved in a corporate conspiracy that accuses him of murdering his family. Standing above the corpse of his loved ones with the weapon in hand, Hugo swears revenge against the corporation who manipulated him.

As Hugo, players will experience fast paced action leveraging various weapons and will also control miniscule Nanobots for action gameplay throughout the human body. In a world where Nanotechnology has made the previously unthinkable possible, players will use their Nanobots to investigate the mysterious deaths, battle enemy Nanobots attempting to ?brainjack' the host and boost Hugo's athletic powers.

Hugo will fight fire with fire, embrace the new technologies and transform himself into a ruthless and ingenious spy to find the man responsible for his brainjack and seek revenge for his murdered family.

Features:

  • Fast paced 3rd person action/adventure: Set in a plausible near future, experience the world with the convenience of Nanotechnology through an epic tale of corporate conspiracy and revenge.

  • Upgrade me: Use nanotechnologies to enhance your physical abilities. Run faster and jump higher to flank enemies and shoot them from where they expect it the least. Use your nanogadgets to lure enemies and ambush them.

  • From human to atom: See the world from a different point of view. Fly Nanobots inside bodies or electronic devices to find information, hack a security system , heal someone, brainjack a guard or save a fetus under attack. Crawl on a person's skin to investigate a wound, destroy swarms of enemy Nanobots or hack a car to remotely control it.

  • Multiplayer: As a Nanobot, take on additional missions, alone or with friends. Together, purge a body of all its invading Nanobots. Fight each other and be the first to brainjack the President."
