News: EA will be having you singing, "Until the midnight hour of Oct. 7, I'll cry MoH! MoH! MoH!"

If you weren't one of the several thousand gamers invited to the closed multiplayer beta for Medal of Honor this summer, consider October 4 your new deployment date. That's when EA declares open season with an open beta for the PC.

Enlisting simply requires going to www.medalofhonor.com/pcopenbeta on that date and logging into your EA Account (it's free, don't worry). Since it's a PC beta, the publisher recommends the following specs:

Operating System: Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7.
Processor: QuadCore 2.0Ghz. Memory: 2GB RAM+.
Video Card: A video card with 512MB of VRAM and one of the following chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce GTX260; ATI Raedeon 4870. HDD Space: 2GB.
Soundcard: Soundcard with DirectX 10 compatibility.
DirectX: DirectX 10.
Disc Drive: 16X CD/DVD Drive.

In addition to being available to everyone, the open beta features two new maps that weren't in the closed beta. Both Kunar Base and Shahikot Mountains are inspired by real world locations and are two of the four maps we playtested at a San Francisco MoH multiplayer event last night. Our impressions will be posted on Monday along with a video interview with the game's developers. In the meantime, here's EA's description of the two maps and modes and a new trailer for the raid objective:

Kunar Base is played in the Sector Control multiplayer mode where two sides fight to control tactical sectors of the map. Shahikot Mountains is played in the tactical and objective-based Combat Mission multiplayer mode where gamers battle through a series of objectives to defeat the opposing team. Both modes pit teams of 12 players (total 24 players) against one another with realistic destruction, tactical support actions and a weapon customization system that generates hundreds of combinations.

Widening of the beta begins on October 4 and ends days later on October 7 at 11:59 PM Pacific time. You'll have to wait a short five days until the final game releases on October 12. In the short time frame of the open beta, EA said that it hopes to alleviate some of the misunderstandings on its realistic portrayal of what's happening overseas.

"The Open Beta of the Medal of Honor multiplayer mode will allow players to sample the authenticity and adrenaline-fueled action that the full game will offer on [October 12 in North America and] October 15 [in Europe]," said Frank Gibeau, President of EA Games Label. УWe also hope that by offering the Multiplayer Open Beta, we can clear up any misunderstanding about the patriotism and respect that are the foundation of this game. The Medal of Honor franchise has always shown extraordinary reverence for American and Allied soldiers -- this game is no exception."

We'll have more on this Monday.
