Before Pokemon Black and White release on Nintendo DS, here's a list of Pokemon Guinness records @ Gaming Target

News: The release date for Pokemon Black and Pokemon White is in four days, so don't expect the avalanche of Pokemon-related stories to stop.

Pokemon Black and White is just four days away from its March 6 release date on Nintendo DS. In turn, Nintendo and its partners are doing everything they can to flood our e-mails to hype up the latest version of the game.

The latest news item comes from the folks at Guinness World Records, which recently put out the Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer's Edition. This is the same 216-page book that features Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet on the cover and that we covered when attending the record-breaking LBP2 marathon in NYC (read: Sackboy meets Jersey Shore as JWoww and Pauly D play LittleBigPlanet 2 at record-breaking launch event). Inside, there are six Pokemon-related records. While most of the world records are for highest scores, the first two are "a little out there," and therefore interesting.

Lisa Courtney holds the record for the largest collection of Pokemon memorabilia with 14,410 different items as of the last official tally in October 2010. Her favorite item of the last 14 years? A doll of the Pokemon Absol that she bought through eBay.

Even stranger than Lisa's obsession is the fact that biologists from the Osaka Bioscience Institute in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, named a protein after a Pokemon character, marking the first protein to be named after any video game character. The particular protein is necessary to efficiently transmit visual information to the brain. Having determined that the protein is used in kinetic vision (being able to detect fast-moving objects), they named it pikachurin after Pikachu, who is also very fast.

First Perfect Game On Pokщmon Puzzle League
Lawrence "Tusm" Brown (USA) was the first person to attain a perfect score on Pokщmon Puzzle League racking up 999,999 points in 2006.

Highest score for Game Boy Color Pokщmon Pinbal
On June 25, 2005, Matt O'Rourke (USA) achieved a score of 309,374,900 on Nintendo Game Boy Color's Pokщmon Pinball (Blue) and 322,497,700 (Red).

Highest Score on Pokщmon Puzzle Challenge (Nintendo, 2000)
The highest score on Pokщmon Puzzle Challenge (Hard Mode, Garbage level) is 13,756, achieved by Jennifer Jacobs (USA) in New York, USA, on May 20, 2010.

Top-50 Characters of All-Time
Pokщmon's Ash Ketchum, the ultimate Pokщmon Trainer, comes in at #37 of the top 50 video game characters list generated by Guinness World Records readers. Everyone's favorite Pokщmon, Pikachu surfaced at #20.
