News: Streaming Hulu Plus on Xbox 360 this Friday would be clutch as the app is inaccessible on PS3.
While Hulu Plus on PS3 sleeps, Microsoft is there to pounce, according to the latest issue of official Xbox Magazine. The paid video streaming service had launched an app on the PlayStation 3 last summer, but, this week, has fallen victim to the ongoing PSN outage. Currently, users can't access the app on PS3 due to a required PSN login screen. Worse, the login failed screen is tough to navigate away from since it doesn't stop popping up when you try to back out of it - just to add insult to injury.
If the magazine article is correct, the dashboard app will come to Xbox 360 just in time. Like Netflix, the app is free, but the subscription costs $7.99 no matter which method you chose to watch your movies and TV show episodes: Mac, PC, PS3, Xbox 360, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and select Internet-connected TVs.
This may seem a little pricey since services like Netflix and Amazon Prime currently offer many of the same movies and archived TV shows. However, the
Examiner is also reporting that Microsoft is giving everyone a free month of Hulu Plus (we're guessing for new accounts only). The deal gets even sweeter with the mention of a sweepstakes from April 29 to May 30, which users enter every time they launch the app. Weekly winners will be picked for contest prizes such as a vacation at a Beach resort and an Xbox 360 4GB Kinect Bundle and a year's subscription to Xbox Live.
So, if you're missing out on watching the latest episodes of
House and
30 Rock and, even if you're not willing to admit it,
Glee and
Dancing with the Stars, then stay tuned for this prize-wielding widget update coming to Xbox Live on Friday.
