PSN News: Sony has announced its PlayStation Network Customer Appreciation Program in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Latin America.
As soon as PSN came back online, every eager PS3 and PSP owner asked: When will the free "Welcome Back" gifts release from Sony? Considering the 24-day PSN outage, we don't blame these online multiplayer-deprived gamers for getting a little greedy. And lucky for them, Sony didn't take too long to respond to their important question.
If you're in the United States, Canada Mexico or Latin America, you'll be able to chose two PS3 games from the following:
Dead Nation,
inFamous,
LittleBigPlanet,
Super Stardust HD and
Wipeout HD + Fury. Likewise, PSP has a list of four games from which you can pick two:
LittleBigPlanet on PSP,
ModNation Racers,
Pursuit Force and
Killzone Liberation.
These free PS3 and PSP games are not available to download right now, as the PlayStation Store is not yet active. Sony wants to make sure that it gets the whole credit card transaction security thing right. When the PS Store is back up, however, you'll have 30 days to download your choice of what amounts to four free videogames. Best of all, this isn't a PlayStation Plus promotion in which these games will expire.
Unlike gamers living in Mexico and Latin America, American and Canadian PSN customers have additional services like PlayStation Plus and Qriocity. So, Sony is throwing them a couple of extra incentives: select free PSN movie rentals (films unannounced) over one (also unannounced) weekend. Non-PlayStation Plus subscribers will get a free 30 days of the service, while existing members will receive a free 60 days subscription.
Likewise, non-paying Music Unlimited who were caught in the middle of the service's free trial will get another 30 days to test of the subscription service, while paying members net a free 60 days. Lastly, 100 free virtual items in your avatar-inhabited PlayStation Home.Sony also promises Home users a forthcoming addition to the Home Mansion personal space and an exclusive new game called Ooblag's Alien Casino.
Gaming Target will let you know when these free DLC and subscription offers go live via the PlayStation Store. Sony has promised that all of PSN will be back to normal by the end of the month, so we're keeping our fingers crossed (which makes online gaming even harder and as unplayable as the past three weeks).
