Dead Island News: There was talk that a Dead Island film would come out. Who will Lionsgate get to write and direct?

Dead Island Family Portrait

The Dead Island movie rights are officially in the hands of Lionsgate. The Santa Monica-based production company is citing the game's visceral viral trailer as their point of inspiration. From the official press release:

Like the trailer that will serve as its primary creative inspiration, the film DEAD ISLAND will be an innovation of the zombie genre because of its focus on human emotion, family ties and non-linear storytelling.

While Dead Island was released to mixed reviews, its trailer has received resounding critical acclaim. It seems the film will give audiences a chance to learn the story behind that ill-fated family.

Dead Island has been no slouch in the sales department, moving over two million units to date. That, combined with the success of its trailer, make it no surprise that Hollywood came knocking.

Lionsgate is no stranger to horror, or video game adaptations. It currently owns the rights to Kane & Lynch, and previously distributed the Saw franchise.

This news comes on the heels of
Dead Island's PS3 patch, which promises to fix the game's auto save and multiplayer connectivity issues.

Who would you like to see cast in the Dead Island movie? What about writers and directors? Voice your opinion in the comments.
