DCUO F2P News: The first week of the F2P model for DC Universe Online for PS3 and PC nets one million new players.

DC Universe Online is now F2P or free to play on PS3 and PC.

DC Universe Online is now free-to-play, or F2P, which means that gamers can download the PS3 and PC game for free and play it with a few pay-for-content limitations. This made the game a much more attractive option for spend-thrifty gamers and, proving that, the news of this transition from a subscription-based model to F2P has spurred one million new sign-ups. According to DC Universe Onine publisher Sony Online Entertainment, the split between the PS3 and the PC was even with a 50/50 breakdown.

"DCUO now joins the ranks of SOE's other successful free-to-play titles, including Free Realms and Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures," said SOE Austin Executive Director of Development Lorin James, putting it into perspective. У"Our business model philosophy of Free to Play Your Way makes DCUO accessible to every type of player so they can choose to play the game in a way that suits them best.Ф

The other tiers are Premium, which costs $5, and Legendary, which replicates the $14.99 monthly subscription fee that DC Universe Online launched with back in January. We go into detail about the three tiers, Free, Premium and Legendary in our DCUO F2P price breakdown.

Jameson ended his statement by saying, "Our business model philosophy of Free to Play Your Way makes DCUO accessible to every type of player so they can choose to play the game in a way that suits them best. We have a lot of exciting things coming up for players to enjoy in the game and are thrilled at the initial enthusiasm for the game's free-to-play transition."

Are you more willing to download DC Universe Online now that it's free to play? Or are you waiting for the December 20 release date of Star Wars TOR, which has a considerable amount of buzz behind it, but costs $15? Let us know in the comments.
