Ten years after the first C&C: Generals, PC gamers will be able to take control of the popular RTS series with Command & Conquer: Generals 2, which currently occupies a 2013 release date. In addition to the surprise news about this PC-exclusive and the first gameplay trailer at the Spike VGAs, EA announced that development is being handled by a BioWare-labeled team. BioWare Victory is working on C&C: Generals 2 using the Frostbite 2 engine, the same engine that powers first-person shooter Battlefield 3.
УWe're bringing BioWare's vision for emotionally engaging gameplay and great attention to quality to the strategy genre and the Command & Conquer franchise,Ф said Dr. Ray Muzyka, General Manager of EA's BioWare label. УI am excited to welcome BioWare Victory to our label. They are a great addition and the team is working hard to make sure Generals 2 truly immerses and engages players into this intense, gritty, modern war experience.Ф
Command & Conquer: Generals 2's storyline involves world leaders coming together to sign a peace treaty to end global war. Of course, if this happened, there'd be no game. As anyone who has ever watched an episode of 24 could predict, this type of situation is catnip for terrorists, who strike the conference and kill everyone in attendance. That's where the УGeneralsФ part of the C&C: Generals 2 title comes into play.
The military is all of a sudden in control and they're not as into peace treaties as their political predecessors. The entire game turns into a factions-based campaign to conquer global terror. In addition to controlling three different factions in the single-player campaign, C&C: Generals 2 will also feature online cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.
The 30-second video from the VGA debut trailer gives you only a brief glimpse of what the gameplay will look like. Most of the trailer is made up of company logos and teaser text. Certainly, between now at the Command & Conquer: Generals 2 release date in 2013, there'll be many more gameplay trailers to dissect.
