Both Resident Evil and Capcom's MT Framework engine are returning to the Nintendo 3DS next month with the release of Resident Evil: Revelations. Also joining this February 7-bound game are series favorites: Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield. The story will feature new character, too: Morgan Lansdale, Jessica Sherawat and Parker Luciani, all members and former members of the Federal Bioterrorism Commission, or FBC. However, the return of Jill and Chris, stars of the first Resident Evil game, should make you feel right at home from the get-go.
The equally familiar face of bio-terrorism is once again the focus in Resident Evil: Revelations, this time on the floating city of Terragrigia. This man-made island is revealed in Capcom's new minute-and-a-half trailer for the game along with a bunch of storyline details. Like any Resident Evil game, though, you won't be able to piece everything together until you play the final game. Right now it's just a confusing set of chopped up dialogue clips that make no sense whatsoever.
As convoluted as the trailer makes the story look, at least Resident Evil: Revelations has a story. The previous 3DS game from this Capcom franchise, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (see our review), had no official plot and played more like a test of the new hardware from Nintendo. February 7 will mark the debut of a canon story for Resident Evil games on Nintendo 3DS.
Also a first for Capcom's bio-terrorism series and the Nintendo 3DS is the support of the Circle Pad Pro. Resident Evil: Revelations will be the first to use the GameStop-exclusive accessory that adds much-needed dual analog support to the system.
Sadly, the Circle Pad Pro doesn't come with the $50 Resident Evil: Revelations at GameStop, as other sites have reported - the bundle just doesn't exist here in North America. The best buy for the non-European gamers is actually at Target, where the price of the game is currently $45. Buying the $20 Circle Pad Pro at GameStop is still your only option, but purchasing one part of this DIY $65 bundle at Target will save you $5.
