News: The official announcement of PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 may happen at June's E3 2012.

PS4 and Xbox 720 may be announced at E3 2012 news

Ready for PS4 and Xbox 720 (and to hopefully stop calling it Xbox 720 when Microsoft gives us a better, more official name)? Even if you're not, the speculation that E3 2012 will host announcements for Microsoft and Sony's next-generation consoles appears to be growing, thanks to another news story with yet another anonymous source. This time it's out of the UK, where industry trade magazine MCV reports that the two systems will debut at the Los Angeles convention this June.

УThird-party publishing sources claim the firm had signalled to partners [an E3 2012 announcement] will happen,Ф says MCV of PS4 and Xbox 720. While the news story doesn't go beyond indicating that the sources are third-party game publishers, it does give a few reasons to back up the E3 2012 timing. First, Xbox 360 has been on store shelves for more than six years. Second, the UK magazine says that E3 2012 will also be the location where Nintendo unveils the launch date and price of the Wii U, which was first announced at last year's E3 convention.

Here's another reason that's not part of the MCV news package: Microsoft had the Halo 4 announcement last year along with an attempt at Уcore KinectФ titles - pretty slim pickings to say the least. With the Halo 4 release date set for Holiday 2012, the days of Xbox 360's first-party support look as if they're numbered.

Stay tuned to Gaming Target, where we'll pick apart the PS4 and Xbox 720 speculation, no matter how dumb we think the У720Ф moniker is.
