Star Wars Xbox 360 News: The release date for the R2D2 Star Wars Xbox 360 limited edition bundle and Star Wars Kinect game are today.
The Star Wars Xbox 360 bundle finally launches today alongside the long-awaited Kinect Star Wars game, which, by no coincidence, has the same release date. GameStop is selling this limited edition bundle for $499.99, while Amazon has it listed for $499.00, saving you exactly ninety-nine Lincoln pennies. Although both of these prices mean that it'll cost more than a standard Xbox 360, this one-of-a-kind bundle is quite possibly the coolest-looking official video game console mod to date.
So, what does the Star Wars Xbox 360 bundle get you for nearly $450 Galactic Credits? It features a blue-and-white R2D2-themed console chassis that looks -
and sounds - like everyone's favorite Star Wars droid. That's right, whenever you turn the console on or open the system tray, this R2 unit will emit classic R2-D2 sound effects. To top it off, this particular Xbox 360 console contains a 320GB hard drive, which is the largest drive available for the system.
The Star Wars Xbox 360 bundle isn't dominated by R2-D2, though. The galaxy's most famous protocol droid shines - literally - thanks to a shiny C-3PO-styled controller. This gold-faced XBox 360 controller is wireless and may or may not be Уfluent in over six million forms of communication.Ф You'll just have to test out the bundle to find out.
Continuing with the R2-D2 theme is the Xbox 360 Kinect itself, the first white version of the motion-controlled camera that Microsoft has put out there. Two pack-in games allow you to immediately make use of the white Kinect: Kinect Adventures and the very appropriate Star Wars Kinect. You can check out our
Kinect Adventures review right here and look out for a future Kinect Star Wars review at a later date.
Is the new Star Wars Xbox 360 bundle worth buying? That depends. The somewhat similar Xbox 360 Holiday Bundle is $399 ($50 less), but that features a 250GB hard drive (a 70GB step down) and the other game besides Kinect Adventures is Carnival Games, not Kinect Star Wars. It's certainly coolest-looking Xbox 360 skin to date, has a unique C-3PO gold controller and featuring beeping and buzzing exactly like in the movies. If you're in the market for a new Xbox 360, $50 more for the Star Wars Xbox 360 isn't much for a system that no one else you know has yet.
