GTA 5 Wii U, PC News: GTA 5 only has a release date on the Xbox 360 and PS3, but the game could release on the Wii U and PC after all, says Rockstar Games.
That Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer 2 video had Wii U and PC owners jealous that the game isn’t coming to their platform of choice - so far GTA 5 has a Q2 2013 release date for Xbox 360 and PS3.
However, Rockstar Games Vice President Dan Houser is giving Wii U and PC gamers hope in a new IGN interview that focused on GTA 5.
“Everything else is up for consideration,” said Houser. “That's all I can give you.”
He follow “that’s all I can give you,” by telling us a little more - not that we’re complaining.
“The main thing is we are not... we are a third-party publisher. We're not Nintendo, we're not Sony, we're not Microsoft. We love all of them in different ways.”
“But we can do what we want wherever there's the appropriate business opportunity and chance to find a market. If that's on Apple we put something on Apple. Wherever it might be.”
To that point, Rockstar Games has released iOS versions of the Grand Theft Auto series, so if the install base is there, the recently released Wii U and the struggling PC might be candidates depending on performance.
“I think that's the fun in what we do. We see ourselves as a content company that uses technology. We don't make it; we use it to make the most fun stuff.”
While Houser doesn’t rule out making a Wii U or PC version of GTA 5, it’s unlikely that either platform will receive the game in time for the PS3 and Xbox 360 release date.
Rockstar Games released GTA 4 on the PC, but eight months after the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. The company’s other LA-based open-world game, LA Noire, also came to the PC delayed - six months after the console release date.
The company certainly has a history of supporting multiple platforms, just not all at the same time. GTA 5 is likely to go to the systems with the highest install base, then venture to the Wii U and PC if it makes enough sense.
