PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U Sales News: Black Friday sales of the Xbox 360 and PS3 outpaced the new Nintendo Wii U console, even though Microsoft and Sony’s systems are older.
Nintendo Wii U was still out of stock in a few stores throughout the U.S. last weekend, but that doesn’t mean the console was the hottest video game hardware during Black Friday week. That distinction goes to the now more than six-year-old Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles.
Xbox 360 sales topped 750,000 in the U.S. from Nov. 18 to Nov. 23, making it the country’s best selling console during the week of Black Friday. Best selling games Halo 4 and CoD: Black Ops 2 helped push the number of consoles sold, as well as Xbox 360 deals from various retailers.
PS3 sales reached 525,000 the week of Black Friday, according to Sony. The company’s official press release notes that these PS3 sales figures include Saturday, Nov. 25, so Microsoft has an even wider gap than the 225,000 deficit if you subtract their totals.
All that being said, the
PS3 vs. Xbox 360 total sales figures debate is still a stalemate. Both systems were neck-and-neck in reaching 70 million consoles sold to date.
The Nintendo Wii U, meanwhile, sold 400,000 consoles, although this number may be because retailers sold out of the console during on the Wii U release date. Although most stores in the U.S. like
GameStop, Walmart and Target have replenished their Wii U stock, Best Buy still lists the console as sold out.
The Nintendo Wii U price starts at $299, which is a deal for a brand new system launched during the holiday season. But a number of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals have made the Xbox 360 and PS3 much cheaper and more appealing to bargain-hunting consumers.
More updates on the Xbox 360 vs. PS3 vs. Wii U sales figures are expected, as all three companies are going to be reporting their sales figures following Cyber Monday Week.
