News: PS Vita version of Killzone is scheduled to receive Update 3 in a week weeks and Update 4 and 5 next year with free map downloads.

Killzone Mercenary

Even though everyone’s attention is on Killzone: Shadow Fall thanks to this month’s PS4 launch, Sony developer Guerrilla Cambridge isn’t forgetting about its PS Vita title in the same franchise.

Killzone Mercenary, which released on the handheld in September, is being supported with “a number of updates coming over the next few months,” said senior producer Mark Green via the PlayStation Blog.

The next Killzone Mercenary patch to come out of the studio will be Update 3. It’ll reduce the size of the other patches, freeing up around 800MB of space for those who have already installed Updates 1 and 2.

Killzone Mercenary Update 3 is scheduled to be ready in the next few weeks, so hopefully before Christmas.

Update 4 is a little longer out. Due in January, it’s being designed to improve matching, reduce join-game connectivity problems, and add an auto team-rebalancing feature.

Free Killzone multiplayer maps

Update 5 is the one worth waiting for. It’ll add two new Killzone multiplayer maps for free and an offline Botzone for Mercenary and Guerrilla Warfare modes.

In the offing for the first few months of 2014 is Update 6, with release notes that are likely to include playing Killzone Mercenary on Vita TV.

While we continue to make our way through the Killzone: Shadow Fall campaign and set up multiplayer matches, it’s good to know the team at Guerrilla Cambridge is still hard at work improve the PS Vita game, just in case we want to step away from our PS4 dominated TVs for a while.
