Apple Black Friday News: Up to $150 in gift cards can be had by purchasing Apple hardware at the official Apple Stores or through its online counterpart this Black Friday.
Apple’s website is back online hosting Black Friday deals that comes with Apple Store gift cards for items such as the iPad Air, iPad min 2 Retina display, and MacBook Pro Retina display.
A the top of its list, is that coveted iPad Air Black Friday deal, which comes with a $75 gift card that is good toward a future purchase. The cheaper iPad mini for $299 and much older iPad 2 for $399 both come with $50 Apple Store gift cards.
The same sort of deal applies to new Mac purchases during Black Friday, but ups the gift card amount to a nice $150. There’s good reason for that: the MacBook Pro Retina flagship starts at $1299, while the still-hanging-in-there non-Retina MacBook Pro is listed at $1199.
The MacBook Air Black Friday deal still nets consumers a $150 gift card, even though this ultra light laptop is the least expensive of the bunch, starting at $999. Finally the iMac offers the same deal with a starting price of $1299.
It’s odd to see that despite the varying prices for these Apple computer, that the company’s Black Friday deals include gift cards of the same amount. Great if you’re buying into the MacBook Air, but kind of disappointing if you’re putting more money into a MacBook Pro Retina.
There’s still life in Apple’s colorful iPod collection, with the $299 iPod touch and $149 iPod nano supplying buyers with $50 and $25 Apple Store gift cards respectively.
Why these Apple Black Friday 2013 deals aren’t worth it
Apple suggests a bunch of accessories to spend that “money” on, including the Apple TV, net, Nike FuelBand SE, and Withings scale. However, we have found all of these items, and better iPad deals elsewhere this holiday season.
For example, Target is offering an iPad Air Black Friday deal with a $100 gift card - and the 9.7-inch tablet starts at $179.99, $20 cheaper than the Apple Store. Plus, you can buy a whole lot more stuff at Target. For example, the Apple TV is $89 even, not $99 as is the case at the Apple Store.
Apple’s deals look nice and pretty on its website, but they’re not exactly the best if you search around this Black Friday and Cyber Monday. You’ll end up getting an undervalued gift card and spend it on higher priced items.
