News: Microsoft reveals that there will be new firmware arriving on Xbox One next week that allows you to manage your storage space and more.
Xbox One will be receiving a firmware update next week according to Marc Whitten, Chief Product Officer at Microsoft. On February 11th when you boot up your Xbox One an update will be delivered to you that will feature many new improvements. Some of these improvements will be on the back end for developers to utilize while others will be front and center where gamers will get a little bit more control over their day to day experience with Xbox One. While Mr. Whitten did give out the entire list of improvements that will arrive on February 11, he did highlight the following:
The ability to see and manage your storage space
With this update you will find it easy to find how much space your content is taking up and you will be able to manage it properly. You can also control your install lineup and more easily manage your download queue. They have separated “My Games” and “My Apps” into separate lists, so you can easily separate queues for both. Now you can pick the order in which you want your content to load and they have added a boot progress indicator so you can better track updates while they load.
Battery Power Indicator
The battery power indicator will be making it’s debut on Xbox One beginning on February 11. You will be able to see it right on the home screen, so you can easily track how much battery life is left on your controller.
USB keyboard support
Once you install this update the Xbox One will support USB keyboards. This could be a significant step for those gamers who elect to play MMOs on Xbox One, such as the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online or for people who simply want to surf the web with Internet Explorer.
In addition to the February 11 update, there will also be an update arriving on March 4 to prepare Xbox One for Titanfall. This update will contain many new features and improvements, most significantly to the party and multiplayer systems.
Microsoft has promised that this announcement is the first of many so be sure to keep checking Gaming Target for any more news as it is revealed. Which feature would you like to see fixed or added in a future firmware update?
