News: If you only use Xbox Live Gold for entertainment purposes such as watching Netflix and Hulu you might be able to get a small refund.
Yesterday we reported on some major changes that will be taking place with Xbox Live and Xbox One. For years entertainment apps like Netflix and Hulu have been behind the Xbox Live paywall. This has never been a problem since those apps are on pretty much every machine now, however, Microsoft has still elected to remove them from behind the paywall. Essentially what that means is that you will no longer have to be an Xbox Live Gold member to use entertainment apps such as Netflix and Hulu.
Some extra good news was released today via the Xbox Support page and it revolves around possible refunds for the unused portion of your Xbox Live Gold membership. Here is what they had to say:
Will I be able to cancel my Gold membership?
“Yes. Once the Xbox One and Xbox 360 system updates become available in June, Xbox Live Gold members who purchased a paid membership before that day can cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of any unused remaining days between the date of cancellation and the date their paid Gold membership ends. Cancellation and pro-rata refund requests must be made by August 31, 2014 and require six to eight weeks for processing. Free or trial Gold memberships are not eligible for a refund. To request your pro-rata refund, please click http://support.xbox.com/contact-us after the system updates become available in June.”
Will you try to get a refund for your unused Xbox Live time? Keep in mind you will still need Xbox Live for everything else such as multiplayer and getting those free Xbox One games that are going to be available beginning on June 9. Tell us what you think below.
