News: Sony has officially cancelled the Last Guardian if new rumors are to be believed, ending a multi-year saga about what was happening with this anticipa

The Last Guardian Cancelled

UPDATE 11:07PM - Scott Rohde (PlayStation Software Product Development Head for Sony Worldwide Studios America) just sent out a tweet saying the Last Guardian has not been cancelled. It appears the mystery continues.

If you would like to see the Twitter response from Scott for yourself, click here. Do you think it has been cancelled or is it still coming?

-------------------------------

ORIGINAL STORY: The Last Guardian is a game that many gamers have been waiting to play for a very long time. It has been in development hell, seen key people leave the team and Sony themselves were giving conflicting reports on its status over the years. It appears the sage is finally over though and it isn’t the ending anyone wanted.

According to IGN, The Last Guardian has been officially cancelled by Sony. IGN claims that their sources say the information was revealed during an internal meeting at Sony last week. In the past Sony had stated that they were happy that people appeared to be so passionate about this game. Despite repeated rumors about The Last Guardian being cancelled we were always assured that it would be coming. As the PS3 generation came and went rumors began to crop up that maybe The Last Guardian was moved over to the PS4. Sadly that doesn’t appear to be the case either.

The Last Guardian was originally unveiled to everyone at E3 2009. At that time the release date was projected to be 2011. 2011 came and went and we didn’t hear anything about the game. 2012 came and went and we didn’t hear anything about the game. Last year everyone figured that we had to hear something about The Last Guardian during E3 but, again, we heard nothing.

If this turns out to be true then it is truly sad news. I say “if” only because companies have been known to “lie” right before E3 to try and surprise everyone at the show itself. Sadly I doubt that happens this time. Speaking personally I have been looking forward to this game for many years. The pedigree of the studio behind it speaks for itself which is why I believe everyone was hyped up for this game despite the fact that very little was known about it.

We are awaiting official word from Sony since this story is coming from IGN’s sources but it doesn’t look good. What do you think happened? Are you disappointed that The Last Guardian is probably cancelled? Tell us what you think below.
