News: If you are a member of the preview program for Xbox One you are going to want to update the firmware in your controllers.
If you are in the preview program on Xbox One you are going to want to update the firmware in your controller according to Major Nelson. This new controller firmware update brings about two improvements to the controller. The startup time of the controller itself has basically been cut in half as well as the ambiguous “stability improvements.”
Before applying this update it would around 4-5 seconds for a controller to connect to the Xbox One during startup. With this new update installed the controller should now connect to the console in approximately two seconds. To update your controller firmware you need to do the following:
Connect a controller to your Xbox One with a USB cable. Be sure to keep any headsets connected to your controller
Connect to Xbox Live so that you can install the firmware update
Go to Settings and then to Devices and Accessories. Be sure to select the controller at this point
Select “Update” to download the new firmware to the controller attached via the USB cable, and the screen will show the “Updating controller” progress screen
When you see the “controller updated” screen push the “B” button to go back to the Devices and Accessories main page
Choose the controller once again and, if the firmware updated correctly, it should say that you have Firmware 1.2.2236.0
You will want to do this for all of the controllers that you have. What else would you like to see either improved upon or added to Xbox One through these updates?
