News: Red Dead Redemption and more have hit backwards compatibility on the Xbox One as long as you own the digital versions.

**UPDATE 3** Major Nelson has stated these games being available right now is a mistake and they are no longer available for the time being.

**UPDATE 2** Symphony of the Night seems to be hit and miss. If it isn't working for you then try again later.

**UPDATE** Alan Wake's American Nightmare is also available via backwards compatibility. Use the method outlined in this article and search for the name "zero6142".

-----------------------------------------

Some new games are on their way to being backwards compatible on Xbox One. Red Dead Redemption, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are now available to be installed on played on your Xbox One, if you know how to find them. It appears they might not be fully ready yet to be released to everyone but if you own the digital versions of these games then there is a workaround for you so you can install and play the games on your Xbox One.

Originally spotted on Neo Gaf, these games are only available right now if you “follow” someone that is following the game. If you look up the name “rockohoward” on your Xbox One you will see that he is following Red Dead Redemption and has it downloaded on his system and has played it. Once there you should be able to download the game to your Xbox One, assuming that you own the digital version.

If you happen to own the physical version of Red Dead Redemption you are out of luck, at least for now. I tried to put in my Xbox 360 disc of Red Dead Redemption and it wouldn’t install. With the game being available to digital owners using this workaround one has to assume that it will be available both digitally as well as with the physical version in the very near future and work just like the other games that are backwards compatible.

If you don’t know how to find someone using the Xbox Live dashboard then take the following steps:

  • When on the main screen, hit left on the d-pad

  • Hit left on the d-pad one more time to highlight “Find someone”

  • Select that and put in “rockohoward”

  • Hit up on the d-pad once to select “rockohoward”

  • Hit “RB” on your controller three times to go to the “Following” category

  • Hit down on the d-pad to pick “Games” and then you will see Red Dead Redemption in the list

  • If you don’t own Red Dead Redemption digitally you can buy it either on an Xbox 360 or on Xbox.com. You can not buy Xbox 360 games on Xbox One yet although Phil Spencer has said they are working on a solution to that. Will you be playing any of these games on your Xbox One tonight? Tell us what you think below.
