News: After being gone for a couple of years, the popular Showcase mode is back and will feature Daniel Bryan’s career and comeback story.

”WWE

WWE 2K19 will be released in a couple of months and earlier today they had a pretty big announcement for wrestling fans. Not only is the 2K Showcase mode returning but this year it will feature the incredible comeback story of Daniel Bryan. Relive the most epic moments, the highlights and the challenges, from Daniel Bryan’s career that have made him the WWE Superstar he is today.

The “Return of Daniel Bryan” Showcase features vignettes with historic WWE footage and Daniel Bryan’s own words that give context and backstory to the subsequent matches that gamers will play through, enabling players to truly feel the adversity that Daniel Bryan has faced each step of his WWE career. Fight for his dream by competing in 11 objective-based, legendary matches, and one additional “surprise” match, playing as variations of Daniel Bryan to unlock historic arenas, Superstars, attires and championships.

If you are unfamiliar with the 2K Showcase mode, 2K explains it like this:

”2K Showcase is a story-driven, single-player campaign mode that traditionally covers a particular era or rivalry of a WWE Superstar. The mode features historic WWE footage that gives context and backstory to the objective-based matches the user plays through. Achieving objectives often triggers mid-match cinematic cutscenes that allow the user to recreate historic moments on their way to victory. Completing objectives also unlocks special arenas, Superstars, attires and championship belts. The goal of finishing a Showcase is to complete as many objectives as possible to earn all unlockable content, and of course, relive some awesome WWE history along the way!”

This is a great move on 2K’s part and a surprisingly timely one as well. It was only a few months ago when Daniel Bryan was medically cleared to return to the ring after having been forced to retire a couple of years earlier due to head trauma. Throughout the development of this showcase the development team didn’t know how the Showcase would end, simply because no one knew whether or not Daniel would ever be allowed to step foot in a ring again as an active competitor. Fortunately a few weeks before WrestleMania 34 Daniel Bryan was indeed cleared to compete. Not only did he get to make his storybook return at the Showcase of the Immortals but 2K now knew how to end the story in this showcase mode.

The Showcase mode will feature a total of 12 matches. There will be 11 historical matches, alongside an additional surprise match. There are a grand total of 11 different Daniel Bryan character models in his 2K Showcase which should do a great job illustrating his journey up to and (presumably) including WrestleMania 34.

Take a look at the trailer below and tell us what you think. Will you be picking up WWE 2K19? If you were on the fence, will the return of the 2K Showcase and it featuring Daniel Bryan change your mind?
