Nintendo Switch Becomes Fastest Selling System This Generation

News: When looking at the first 21 months of all of the current consoles, the Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling of them all.

The Christmas shopping season still has a week left but Nintendo has already revealed that the Switch has hit another milestone. The Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling video game system of this hardware generation through 21 months, according to the NPD Group. From its launch in March 2017 through November 2018, the Switch has sold more than 8.7 million units, outpacing U.S. sales of all other current generation hardware at the same point in their respective life cycles.

In addition to the Switch doing so well, Nintendo is also the top-selling U.S. software publisher so far in 2018. As I mentioned above, these numbers go through November 2018, which means that Nintendo’s numbers will get a significant boost due to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate which was released on December 7. Regarding Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it has become not only the fastest selling title of all time on the Switch, but it is also the fastest selling title in franchise history, with U.S. sales of over 3 million units in just 11 days.

There are also some other impressive numbers for Nintendo that are listed below. Please keep in mind that these numbers are for the U.S. only, so if we were to look at the worldwide figures they would be even better.

Nintendo eShop sales have grown 105 percent over 2017

Evergreen Nintendo Switch games have set new milestones, with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild selling over 4 million units and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe selling 5 million units. Super Mario Odyssey has also sold over 4.7 million units.

Other titles that continue to perform well for Nintendo include Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! And Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, which combine for 2 million units sold, as well as Super Mario Party which currently sits at 1.4 million.
