News: We finally know a release date for Battletoads and it is sooner than you might think.

”Battletoads”

It has been a long time coming but it is almost finally here as Rare has revealed that the new Battletoads is only a few weeks away from release. Battletoads has been developed by Dlala Studios with support from Rare. Over the years we have seen cameos from the Battletoads in games such as Killer Instinct, Shovel Knight, and Rare Replay, however, it has been over two decades since we have seen a proper Battletoads game.

Like other Microsoft first-party titles Battletoads will be available to down free of charge for Game Pass subscribers on both Xbox One and PC. It will also be available for purchase on Xbox One and PC via the Windows Store and Steam. If you are the type of person that likes to install your games before they release so that you can be playing the very moment it is available, that functionality will be available soon as well. Just search the store for Battletoads and it will pop right up.

For those who might be unfamiliar with Battletoads, it is one of those franchises that was crushingly hard, long before Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Sekiro, or any of those games were even thought about. It was a side scroller brawler though and so is the new title that is getting ready to be released. There was an infamous motorbike level that was damn near impossible to pass (though not completely impossible) and it gave you bragging rights among your friends if you were able to successfully doing it. Having played it at E3 2019, I can say that level is indeed back and updated for 2020 and, yes, it is still just as hard. One of the big differences today is you can record yourself going through the game so you can prove that you actually did it (along with unlocking the achievement I assume you’ll get for passing that level).

The new Battletoads game will allow for couch co-op which will allow up to three players to drop in and drop out at will. There are also a variety of difficulty settings to select from ranging from “Tadpole” to “Battletoad”. It appears like there is even going to be some puzzle solving this time around to added to the frantic action that Battletoads is known to have.

Leading up to release Rare and Dlala Studios have said that there are going to be gameplay deep dives released, a first glimpse of new collectible merchandise, and exclusive giveaways. Battletoads will arrive on Xbox One and Windows 10 on August 20, 2020. Do you plan on picking it up? If you are a Game Pass subscriber, will you be downloading it to play?
