Sony has started releasing some details about this year’s baseball title, MLB The Show 21. For starters the cover athlete is from the San Diego Padres, Fernando "El Niño" Tatis Jr. Also for the first time ever, MLB The Show 21 will be a multiplatform title not only showing up on PS5 and PS4, but also arriving on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. This is really big for Xbox fans who haven’t had access to a really great baseball simulation in years and Sony has revealed that it will feature cross-platform play as well. You can go pick it up for your new Xbox Series X and play against someone who has the PlayStation 5 version. Additionally, cross progression will allow you to earn and use content wherever you want. So, theoretically, if you want to buy both versions, you can play the Xbox version and then move on to the PlayStation version and all of your progress will be there waiting for you.
Keeping the current global pandemic in mind, Sony is going to be rolling out information for MLB The Show 21 a bit different than it has in the past. There are going to be a series of “Feature Premiere” videos broadcasted simultaneously on Twitch, Youtube, and Facebook Live. This will be an opportunity for San Diego Studio to showcase their game in a safe manner. Sony currently has plans to have six “Feature Premiere” broadcasts leading up to launch with the first one taking place in March.
There are a few different versions that you can select from this year. There is the normal, standard version for PS4 and Xbox One, the “Next Gen” standard version for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and a collector’s edition. These will include the following:
MLB The Show 21 - Standard Edition
The Game
DLC Items: 5,000 Stubs
MLB The Show 21 - Next Gen Standard Edition
The Game
DLC Items: 5,000 Stubs and 10 of The Show Packs
MLB The Show 21 - Collector’s Edition
Sony has said they will release details of the Collector’s Edition on February 3rd
