News: New content is headed your way for Ghost of Tsushima on the PS5 and the ability to upgrade if you own the PS4 version.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

It has been a rumor for a little while now but Sony has made it official: Ghost of Tsushima is getting a Director’s Cut. This news is to help celebrate the fact that we are quickly approaching the one year anniversary for Ghost of Tsushima on the PlayStation 4 from Sucker Punch. This is a brand new edition of the game that includes a new chapter in Jin’s journey as well as some new updates that are a response to some of the community’s most requested features.

It is important to note that this Director’s Cut will be available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It will arrive on August 20th with the original game and every single piece of content that has been released up to this point, as well as that aforementioned brand new content with Jin.

This new adventure with Jin takes place on Iki. Iki is a neighboring island to Tsushima and you are going there to investigate rumors of a Mongol presence. During the course of your investigation though, you will be caught up in events that will raise the stakes that force Jin to relive some traumatic moments from the past.

Now while this Director’s Cut will be available on both platforms, there are going to be PlayStation 5 exclusive features. The first one is that they will now offer lip sync for Japanese voiceovers. This edition will also take advantage of the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the Dualsense controllers. Additionally, there will be advancements to 3D audio on the PS5 version (extra hardware required such as 3D audio headphones), as well as vastly improved load times, 4K resolution options, and framerates targeting 60 FPS. If you already own Ghost of Tsushima on PlayStation 4 you will be able to transfer your save file to the PS5 version and pick up where you left off. If you are going to be a brand new player to Ghost of Tsushima, the new Iki Island content will become available to you beginning in Act 2, after you have made your way to the Toyotama region.

Regardless of whether you buy this new edition or not, all players will also be receiving an upcoming patch. This patch will include some new photo mode updates, some new accessibility options, the ability to hide your quiver during combat and the option to enable a target lock-on during combat. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends fans will also be receiving new updates, including a new mode that they will discuss in further detail at a later date. All of these updates will be available to everyone free of charge.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will be available on PlayStation 5 for $69.99 and on PlayStation 4 for $59.99 and will be available on August 20. You can pre-order from either the PlayStation Store or from your favorite retailer that carries games. If you pre-order at participating retailers, you will receive a digital mini soundtrack with tracks from the original Ghost of Tsushima, as well as two new songs from Iki Island. You will also receive a digital art book featuring a selection of art from Ghost of Tsushima, in addition to 10 new pieces of Iki Island concept art.

If you do plan on picking up this Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, please keep in mind the following:

If you already own Ghost of Tsushima on PlayStation 4
