Quite possibly the biggest news item to come out of the EA Play event earlier today is that Dead Space is back. This has been heavily rumored for some time but it is always good to get official confirmation. It isn’t Dead Space 4 though as EA has revealed that it is going to be a Dead Space remake, completely rebuilt from the ground up. It is also only going to be available on current generation hardware, meaning Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. The EA studio that is behind this project is Motive and they hope to raise the level of horror and immersion to “unprecedented heights”. This Dead Space remake will be in the Frostbite engine and will feature an improved story, gameplay mechanics, characters, and more as you fight to stay alive aboard the desolate mining starship, the USG Ishimura.
“The Dead Spacefranchise made a huge impact on the survival horror genre when it was released 12 years ago, and I came to Motive as a fan first to specifically work on this game,” said Phillippe Ducharme, Senior Producer of Dead Space.“We have a passionate team at Motive who are approaching this remake as a love letter to the franchise. Going back to the original and having the opportunity to do so on next-gen consoles excited everyone on the team. As we look to modernize the game, we’ve reached out to dedicated fans and invited them to provide us with feedback since the early stages of production to deliver the Dead Space game they want and for new players to enjoy as well.”
The premise of Dead Space is that you are Isaac Clarke, an everyman engineer that is on a mission to repair the USG Ishimura. When you arrive though you’ll see that your problems are a lot bigger than simple repairs. It looks like that all of the crew have been killed and some type of alien being is responsible for the devastation. Unfortunately, Isaac’s beloved partner Nicole was on the ship and appears to be lost. You find yourself trapped in a hostile environment with “necromorphs” and you have to battle to not only keep yourself alive but to keep yourself sane.
As I mentioned above, Dead Space will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. No release date or time frame was mentioned in the teaser trailer that was released. I assume that means we probably have a decent wait until it will be in our hands to play. Take a look at the teaser and then tell us what you think. Are you happy to see Dead Space return? What do you hope to see out of this remake?
