News: Sony’s rumored response to Game Pass has been officially revealed with a timeframe and pricing.
It has been rumored for quite a while now that Sony was working on a competitor to Game Pass. Earlier today we finally got some details about what this new service entails. The big question everyone has is whether Sony’s new service will offer first-party titles at launch such as Microsoft does with Game Pass. Unfortunately, Sony has stated that won’t be the case, so don’t look for the next God of War to be a part of these new PlayStation Plus options, at least not for a while. While it isn’t on the level of Microsoft’s Game Pass service, Sony will offer multiple tiers so that you can customize your new PlayStation Plus experience.
Beginning in June there will be three different tiers of PlayStation Plus. What we know as PlayStation Plus today will become “PlayStation Plus Essential”. With that tier, everything will remain the same as it is today, including the price. Next will be “PlayStation Plus Extra” which is the mid-tier package and will cost $99.99 USD a year. Finally is the top tier package that will be called “PlayStation Plus Premium”. This package will be available for $119.99 USD annually. This new package offers some features gamers have been wanting for a while, but not really how they want them.

At launch, Sony plans to have games such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. Once these new tiers launch PlayStation Now will not be available as a standalone service due to being folded in with some of the new PlayStation Plus packages.
Sony also revealed that the new PlayStation Plus will be rolled out in waves. In June it will initially be available in Asia, and then North America, Europe, and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is available. They hope to have these new PlayStation Plus options for everyone by the first half of 2022.
