News: A feature that fans have been requesting for a little while now is being tested by Xbox Insiders and then will be released to everyone.

”Discord”

Microsoft and Discord have teamed up once again with the announcement that Discord Voice Chat is coming to Xbox consoles. Once this feature is available you will be able to chat with anyone on Discord via the voice channels or group calls directly from your console. If you are in the Xbox Insiders program this update will begin arriving today with it arriving “soon” for everyone else.

This could definitely be a big deal for gamers who are heavy users of Discord and wished there was a way to further incorporate it into Microsoft’s platform. It will now be easier to plan your next few rounds of Halo Infinite with friends or set up a time to race together with the new Hot Wheels expansion in Forza Horizon 5. All you will have to do is connect to their voice channel and chat as you play. While you are using your Xbox you will be able to see who is on the call and who is the active speaker. You will also be able to adjust the sound and switch back and forth between Xbox game chat and Discord.

To do this you will need to link your Discord account to your Xbox. The quick process is as follows:

  • Press the Xbox button your controller

  • Go to Parties & Chats

  • Click on Try Discord Voice on Xbox

  • At that point you should see a QR code that you can scan with your phone. This QR code will take you to the Discord and Xbox apps to connect and set up a two-way link. It is important to note that if you have previously linked your Discord account to your Xbox, you will have to re-link your accounts.

Once your accounts are successfully linked, you can jump into Discord like you normally would. On the Discord mobile app you will see a new option to Join on Xbox. At this point, you will need the Xbox app to transfer voice chat from your Discord to your Xbox. If it is installed, the Xbox App will then launch and let you connect the Discord Voice chat to your system.

As I stated above, this is currently only available for select users in the Xbox Insiders program. It will be made available to everyone in the coming weeks. Will you be participating in Discord Voice Chat on your Xbox?
