News: The PlayStation 5 will soon be receiving some really nice quality of life updates that should make things run smoother and be more accessible.
Sony has announced some upcoming features for the PlayStation 5 and they are features that fans have been requesting for a while now. Currently only available to those who participate in the beta program, the new quality of life enhancements introduces support for more resolutions, gamelists, audio, and more.
The first improvement a lot of people are going to be happy about is 1440p support. A number of gamers have been asking Sony to support this solution and now it seems like it is on the way. If the game you are playing supports 1440p you will be able to experience the resolution natively on your display. Of course, your monitor/television will need to support this particular resolution as well. If you aren’t sure whether your existing equipment supports this new resolution, you will be able to select the option “Test 1440p Output” under the “Screen and Video” options.
For me personally one of the more important additions to this update is the Gamelists feature. Gamelists is essentially folders for your PlayStation 5. The PlayStation 4 had folder support and it was great being able to keep all of my RPGs in one place, all of my platformers in one place, all of my sports games in one place, and so on. The PS5 launched without this feature strangely but now it is almost here. Unfortunately, there is a limit to how many you can create but I’m sure only hardcore gamers would even come close to that number. You will be able to have up to 15 gamelists with 100 games per folder. All of the games in the “Your Collection” area can be added to a gamelist, including digital, disc, and streaming games. If you want you can also add the same game to multiple folders. So, for example, you could have an Assassin’s Creed gamelist but also have a more general open-world gamelist and have Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in both.
Some other features that will be available with this new update include:
Comparing 3D Audio and Stereo Audio - You can listen to and compare the difference to see which setting is best for your setup.
In-Progress Activities - You will now be able to see in-progress activities at the top of the game hub.
Share Screen Gameplay - You will be able to share your screen with party members so they can watch your gameplay.
Join Game Notification - You will receive a notification when you join a party and someone is playing a game you can join.
Friends Profiles - You can check out the profile of your new friend in Accepted Requests.
Stickers and Voice Messages - You can now use the Game Base card to send a voice message or stickers to your groups.
This update isn’t available right now but should be available time soon. Which of these new updates are you most excited about? Tell us about it in the comments section below.
