News: This game of football is a bit different than the other one, featuring some destruction and devastation on the pitch.

FIFA 23 is coming out a little later this month but that won’t be the only “football” game to be released. The team over at Studio Gauntlet has revealed that they will be releasing “A Bad Game of Football” the same day as the next FIFA title. Despite it being the same sport though, the games couldn’t be further apart. A Bad Game of Football is bloody and unrealistic and is inspired by British history and classic RTS games.

A Bad Game of Football will feature ruthless sliding tackles, dynamic pitch destruction, and a disturbing amount of blood and severed limbs. Despite this though the game is actually a light-hearted take on the sport, hoping to capture that good feeling of hanging out with friends, kicking the ball, and stepping on a landmine every once in a while.

A Bad Game of Football is played online in 1v1 competitive matches. You will take control of three players that will make up your team. Your overall goal is to kick, tackle, and overall score more points than your opponents. This game features some unconventional arenas and you can select from a roster of coaches that will spice things up with buffs and unique abilities for your team.

The Early Access period begins this month on September 27. If there is some feedback that you need to give to the developers, you can do so by visiting their Discord community. The current plan is to begin Early Access with three arenas. The arenas will include the following:

  • Ye Olde Mat - A standard football grass pitch featuring a overzealous referee;

  • No Man’s Land - A World War One inspired mud pitch featuring land mines;

  • The Enchanted Woods - A three-lane fantasy field featuring unannounced twists.

  • This Early Access period will also ship with three coaches including a Pacifist Gym Teacher, a World War One General with access to air strikes, and Merlin, the Summoner of The Flaming Infernoball. Of course, this is subject to change, and please keep in mind that during the Early Access period there might be some changes such as the UI, feedback systems will improve, and other technical stuff to increase the game’s overall stability.

    A Bad Game of Football will be available via Early Access for $9.99 USD beginning on September 27th, with a two-pack available for $12.99 USD. The full release is currently expected to arrive sometime in the first quarter of 2023. Once the full game is released the price will be $14.99 US, with the two-pack priced at $18.99 USD. A Bad Game of Football will be available on Windows immediately, with Mac and Linux support planned shortly after the release.

    Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think. Will you be playing A Bad Game of Football?
