News: We have our first look at Nintendo’s new system as well as a date when we might finally learn some concrete details.

”Nintendo

Nintendo has finally given us our first glimpse at the successor to the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2. The Nintendo Switch 2 will arrive in stores at some point in 2025 according to Nintendo but they stopped short of giving us a specific date. The teaser trailer that they released today shows the form factor of the Nintendo Switch 2 as well as some looks at how the hardware itself has changed. Nintendo has not given us any details on capability of the hardware yet but that won’t stop wild speculations from flying around the internet over the next few months.

Nintendo Switch 2 will be mostly backward compatible with games from the original Nintendo Switch. That goes for both digital and physical versions so if you are someone who liked to buy the physical versions of games for your Switch, Nintendo has you covered. Not every game from the Switch will be playable on the Nintendo Switch 2 however. While no specific games have been mentioned, early speculation is that games such as Ring Fit Adventure and all of the Labo stuff probably won’t work with Nintendo Switch 2. Once again, that is only speculation at this time as Nintendo hasn’t officially said what titles will not make the transition to the Switch’s successor.

Today’s trailer is the very definition of a teaser trailer while telling us at the end that there will be a Nintendo Switch 2 specific Nintendo Direct that takes place on April 2, 2025. I chuckled when I saw that date as Nintendo avoided April 1 for obvious reasons.

If you are interested in getting your hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 before it hits retail shelves, Nintendo’s new system will be going on tour later this year and we have those details for you below.
