First Impressions: This is what Super Mario 64 would look like after 10 or so beers!
Although I'm an Xbox writer here at Gaming Target I'm still a big Nintendo fan (I'm a fan of anything video game related really). I also loved the Nintendo 64 even though it's quite clear Nintendo themselves no longer supports it. Who could forget those excellent wrestling games like WWF: No Mercy or the two Zelda adventures, eh? Out of over 200 games though, my favourite N64 title is still Rare's Conker's Bad Fur Day. Why? Conker BFD not only had a very funny immature theme to the addictive one player game but the game also had some very cool sets of multi-player modes as well. Now that makers of Conker' BFD (Rare ware) as been purchased by Microsoft, Rare is giving a new age of Xbox players a chance to play this awesome game and you can also expect some brand new features too like online support, some new unedited content, and much more in this bigger and badder game!
Conker Live and Uncut (or Bad Fur Day, whatever they want to call it) plays a lot like those other cute 3D platformers like Super Mario 64 or Banjo Kazooie. The only thing setting it apart from all the others is the more adult oriented humour. Unlike the wimpy Conker found in Diddy Kong Racing, this cute little orange squirrel loves alcohol, sex, and four letter words. Conker even starts out the game with a bad hangover believe it or not! A heavy departure from the usual Nintendo licensed product. Another part of the appeal of this Conker game is that it has scenes that are parodies of many hit movies out there like The Godfather, Saving Private Ryan, Aliens, the Terminator, even The Matrix so it's not all about the gross stuff.
Even if you manage to finish the main adventure, Conker Live and Uncut has several bonus multi-player modes to keep anyone busy for a while. These multi-player games range from various war scenarios between army squirrels and Nazi-like teddy bears to playing as deadly raptors looking to eat cavemen. Sure, these multi-player games may not seem too original at first but it's a lot more fun blowing off somebody's head when they're a lovable cartoon character. Rare is even improving the chaotic experience thanks to Xbox Live feature.
Although the N64 version was quite vulgar, Nintendo still censored the game before Rare released it. If this Xbox version is suppose to be uncut, then I can only imagine what kind of extremes they go to in the new game! There was also another serious problem with Conker being on the N64 besides the censorship. The graphics of course! I remember having to take breaks from playing the game too much because of the poor frame rate, blurry environments and the awkward camera system which would give me headaches. The Xbox should be able to fix some of these problems easily, even if there are only a few minor upgrades. Already the game's blood looks cleaner in the previews then the N64 game.

So why did Conker's original big N64 game fail to sell well if the game is so great? Nintendo did not hype Conker's BFD that well because I don't remember a single magazine or television ad about the game at all. To be fair, how do you build a buzz about a game where one of the bosses is a giant pile of crap that starts singing to you (not to be compared to those N64 Pokemon Stadium games which was a different pile of crap)? Nintendo's core audience is the younger crowd and the N64 was pretty much dead by 2001 anyway. If Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was released for the N64 back then I bet it would bomb too. On the Xbox though it can be a much different story, the system is still in its prime and the system caters to a more mature fan base. A great game like this would finally get the exposure it deserves. Conker Live and Uncut arrives on the Xbox in 2004 and I can't wait!
