News: They're doing that in your browser?
Earlier this week, Veil Entertainment and Spore Productions released a tech demo for their upcoming online trading card game, Rise & Ruin. Although it doesn't include any playable content, it allows players to interact with Rise & Ruin's game world, featuring the rocky, volcanic landscape of the Ember Plains. The demo shows a fully 3D environment, allows the player to rotate around the landscape, move up and down, and zoom in and out using the mouse. All of this happens within the web browser and requires only a small ActiveX download. The demo can be found at the official website at RiseAndRuin.com.
The Ember Plains is just one of four worlds projected for the game, each of which is not only home to unique playable races, but also a battleground. The dragon-like Ralak inhabit the Ember plains, and they favor swords augmented by fire-based magical attacks. Other races inhabit lands primarily composed of forests, water or air.
Rise & Ruin will be completely web-based, and will allow players to access the game directly through their favorite browsers without the need for extensive downloads. Hardcore fans will be able to interact with their characters via cellphone, training characters and bumping up skill levels with a bit of text messaging.
Rise & Ruin is currently in beta testing and is slated for release in fall 2007.
