News: Ubisoft is really serious about this licensed games thing.
Variety is reporting that Ubisoft has reached a deal to create a game based on James Cameron's 2009 movie Avatar (not based on the Nickelodeon cartoon) and is in talks with NBC to create a game based on the TV show Heroes.
"Avatar's creative team has been thinking about a videogame from the project's inception and were eager to find a partner who could translate the setting, tone, and characters. It was very important to [Cameron] and the rest of us that the universe of Avatar be expanded and give game players opportunities for new experiences," said producer Jon Landau.
The game, which has not been formally announced for any platform yet, will likely be released alongside the movie in May 2009.
Meanwhile, the Variety article also stated that Ubisoft is putting the finishing touches on a deal with NBC to create a Heroes game. The game based on the comic book-inspired show is expected to be revealed at this year's Comic-Con, which begins tomorrow, July 26th.
Those with long memories will remember that we at Gaming Target predicted a Heroes game would be announced at E3. I guess we were just a few weeks off.
We'll have more on both games soon.
