News: Publisher's reluctance cost it Unreal Tournament III in 2007.
Xbox 360 owners may be able to catch up on the PC-to-Console map editing and game modding trend that cost the system Unreal Tournament III in 2007. While PlayStation 3 users will receive the game as a timed-exclusive because Sony already approved user-created and user-edited game content, Microsoft is only now coming around to the idea.
Microsoft said that it was reluctant to do the same because of offensive content concerns, but now the company seems to be loosening restrictions a little bit at Gamerfest 2007, according to a
1UP Article. The introduction of the Xbox Live Silver Platform (XLSP) will allow other publishers to use their own servers for user-generated data, as long as they receive Microsoft's approval first.
This probably won't bring out the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III any sooner, but it shouldn't cost the publisher any more timed exclusives.
