News: 1.80 SDK has resourceful utilities for developers.
PlayStation 3 game developers have been playing with system development kit 1.80 for a few weeks, according to Innerbits, and the updated utilities provide for some exciting new features for them to work with. While the dev kit's reduced memory requirement is a positive for just developers, the three new system utilities that sound exciting for both game makers and consumers are:
- Picture Export Utility
- Allows developers to export any pictures (usually screen shots) to the player's photo profile.
- Music utility
- Consumers can stream their own in-game music.
- PSP External Display
- Allows developers to use a registered PSP system as an extra display.
Considering custom soundtracks were the number one developer requested utility, PS3 dev kit 1.80 is an encouraging step in the right direction and adds two extra utilities to boot. As soon as game titles start using these exciting new features, Gaming Target will give you a heads up.
