News: Who said next-gen was cheap?
In what seems to be an on-going effect of the dollar's economic weakness worldwide, another game demands your cash.
According to a Famitsu article scanned up at Kotaku, Metal Gear Solid 4 will cost 8,800 yen or roughly the equivalent of 91 dollars. That my friends, is the regular edition. The super, Japan-only collector's edition will cost 9,800 yen or 101 dollars. Not too bad, at least this stays with the 10 dollars more theme of past collector editions.
The article also mentions a special edition PS3 to comemorate the occasion. The package includes MGS 4 and a "steel" colored PS3. Personally, an Octo-camouflaged system would have been nice. The bundle will retail for 51,800 yen or 534 dollars.
While the news is certainly a lot better than what we reported out of Australia, it still makes us wonder if this is going to be an economic trend and if so, how long until it hits the U.S.? Will games, like many other things, finally be priced out of our pockets, is this just a test to see how much money a big title can be sold at, or the only way Metal Gear Solid 4 can make enough money to be profitable?
