News: Interview explains where and why.

Famitsu recently did an interview with Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi, which details a few bits about the game, such as the setting in Africa. Takeuchi-san explained that the decision to place the game in Africa came from the desire to show the origins of the Resident Evil key plot point, the virus:

...we really wanted to show the origins of the virus. So for the setting we thought, how about using the place where humankind was born?...we thought we would use Africa, which is now called the birthplace of humanity, as the model.

Ever since the Resident Evil 5 trailer was shown off at E for All last year, controversy has been sparking left and right of whether or not Resident Evil 5's display was racist. Newsweek journalist N'Gai Croal, even sparked a bit of controversy when he commented his thoughts of how the game's trailer was dancing the fine line racism in an MTV Multiplayer interview earlier this week. This issue however, was not adressed in the interview given by Takeuchi-San.
