News: Downloadable content and online play confirmed!

Electronic Arts recently sat down with IGN and detailed what Wii owners can expect to find in Rock Band 2. The major news is that all of the downloadable content that has been previously released will now be available to download on the Wii. Sadly, the Wii will not allow Rock Band 2 owners to play these songs directly from an SD Card (at least not yet) and the songs will have to be moved to the Wii's internal memory before they can be used in game. Thus, prepare to continually keep swapping songs from an SD Card to the Wii and back again if you want the "real" Rock Band 2 experience.

IGN also confirmed that Harmonix plans to include local and online play options for Head-to-Head, World Tour and Battle of the Bands. All of the online stat tracking options, and connection to a RockBand.com profile, will also be found in the Wii version of the game.

Unlike the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 for the Wii has definitely been built from the ground up and is no longer just a port of the PlayStation 2 version.

We'll have more soon.
