News: Giants pitcher and Cy Young winner gets the honor.

2K Games has announced the next iteration in their popular Major League Baseball series. Major League Baseball 2K9 will be released for the PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360 in early 2009. The game will, as always, be developed by Visual Concepts.

Other than that, 2K did not reveal any other details about the game except who will be gracing the cover. And for 2K9, that will be Tim Lincecum, a pitcher for the San Francisco Giants and winner of the 2008 National League Cy Young award.

"Tim is a special player and has the best stuff in baseball. We couldn't have selected a more naturally talented and exciting player to represent Major League Baseball 2K9 next season, and given that he's an avid gamer, it will be a lot of fun working together," said Greg Thomas, senior vice president of sports development for 2K. "Visual Concepts has taken over the development of our Major League Baseball title, and we look forward to continuing to provide fans with the most authentic and high quality gameplay experience that we bring to all of our sports titles."

I guess it was too much to ask for another player from the Mets to get a shot at the cover after the year they had.
