News: And it will be without Angelina Jolie.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Warner Bros. has secured the rights to make movies based on the Tomb Raider franchise. Paramount was responsible for the previous two Tomb Raider movies, 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.
This new Tomb Raider movie will not be Tomb Raider 3, but instead will be a complete reboot of the series with a new actress taking over the role of Lara Croft, a new origin story, a new love interest and a new main villain.
Warner Bros. apparently got a hold of the movie rights after buying a 20% share of Eidos Interactive in December. The movie will be produced by Dan Lin and there is currently no director and no writers signed on, so it will probably be a long time before we see Lara Croft on the big screen again.
We'll have more soon.
