Final Glimpse: I'm cuckoo for giant robots!

My name is Kyle and I'm a sucker for giant robots.

[Hi, Kyle.]

I've been hooked since a kid. I remember waking up early to watch Robotech and Voltron on TV. Against my better judgment I gobbled up Robot Jox when it was released in theaters in 1990. I played Battletech through the 90s and built models Ц oh, did I build models Ц of the same. Yes, I am actually looking forward to the live-action Robotech movie that is in production.

It goes without saying that videogames that put me in the pilot seat of a giant robot strike my fancy. I've seen good (Virtual On). I've seen bad (Armored Core: Nine Breaker). I've seen those that I couldn't afford (Damn you, Steel Battalion). But with all of those that I've already played I am still on the lookout for a new experience that reignites my love affair with robots that wield world destroying power. That is where Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 comes in.

The original Dynasty Warriors: Gundam slipped under my radar. It came out at a time where I was... preoccupied... with the rest of life; my wife having a baby and all. In case you were like me and missed the release I'll give you the quick run down. Take one part Dynasty Warriors-based hack-and-slash game play, stir in a slew of Mobile Suit Gundam mecha, and take part in the ensuing cacophony of mayhem.

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 is taking that action to the next level with a few key changes from the original game. The biggest change (literally, the biggest) is the inclusion of colossal boss mechas like Psycho Gundam. These enemies are able to reconfigure themselves on the fly, evolving the combat as you go. Don't let their size fool you though. These mobile fortresses have a speed that belongs to a smaller robot. To put it into perspective, imagine fighting a chipmunk in the park. That is what these battles will be like.

In addition to making things bigger, the developers are adding a new dimension to the action. Aerial combat is elevating the conflict above the traditional two-dimensional plane that we typically see in a Dynasty Warriors game. This airborne action allows you to rise above the fray when fighting the standard mecha and to strategically strike at various parts of the titanic boss characters.

Final Thoughts
I don't know why I've never gotten into the Mobile Suit Gundam series of animated shows. The big robots with guns (and swords) formula is right up my alley. I think that mixing the mecha of the series with the game play of Dynasty Warriors is the right way to win me over. A plethora of playable Gundams (more than 60), online multi-player combat, and multiple play modes will round out the package. I'm in.
