John has been playing video games for close to twenty years now beginning with his trusty Atari 2600.
After those twenty years he has firmly entrenched himself into "old codger" territory by preferring old school game styles over these fancy new fangled graphics. Platform shooters, beat 'em ups, space shooters, this is what John is a fan of.
He is also a glutton for punishment as he loves any and all (OK, most) licensed games. The ability to play as James Bond or Buffy or Optimus Prime overwhelms his better judgement and causes him to seek out games featuring these and many other characters. He knows that many games based on movie and TV licenses are downright horrible, but dammit, Evil Dead: A Fistful of Boomstick is a great game. And he thinks there are other overlooked gems in this misunderstood genre as well.
He joined Gaming Target in 2001 and has steadily grown from a shoddy writer into a somewhat less shoddy writer. His writing has been featured on other sites such as UGO, Slashdot, Game Girl Advance, Joystiq, Kotaku and countless librarian's blogs.
John writes The Video Game Librarian, a column that explores the growing relationship between libraries and video games. He also writes The Exclusive Arms Race, an analysis of the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii's exclusive offerings.
In the real world, John works for a library and spends his (non-video game) freetime reading, watching TV and movies, and listening to music, not necessarily in that order. The rest of his time is spent with his fiance, the lovely Miss Holly, who he's slowly teaching how to play video games.
