News: Gamers will have to wait a few extra months to control Bayonetta's lovely hair.

Sega has announced that their Devil May Cry-like action title, Bayonetta, has been delayed to January 2010. The game, which is in the works for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, was originally scheduled to be released sometime this Fall.

According to Sega, the game is not being delayed for any technical reason, but because they don't want it buried under the avalanche of this Fall's other major releases:

УBayonetta is an extremely important new IP for Sega and adds a new level of depth to our growing portfolio. As a result of market analysis we have taken a Publishing decision that January 2010 is the optimum release time in the Western Markets to maximize this exciting new title's potential,Ф said Mike Hayes, President and COO for Sega West.

Bayonetta is the first PS3 and Xbox 360 title from Platinum Games, the developers behind MadWorld for the Wii. The game's similarities to Devil May Cry are deliberate, as Hideki Kamiya, the game's director, also created the Devil May Cry series. But Devil May Cry never featured a shape-shifting witch (with chunky geek glasses) killing enemies with her hair:

A witch with powers beyond the comprehension of mere mortals, Bayonetta faces-off against countless angelic enemies, many reaching epic proportions, in a game of 100% pure, unadulterated all-out action. Outlandish finishing moves are performed with balletic grace as Bayonetta flows from one fight to another. With magnificent over-the-top action taking place in stages that are a veritable theme park of exciting attractions, Bayonetta pushes the limits of the action genre, bringing to life its fast-paced, dynamic climax combat.

We'll have more soon.
