News: Now we know it's coming, but when will we get to play it?
MCV, a British site that specializes in the business side of video games, has scored an interview with Scott Guthrie, the head of MTV Games. In that interview, he talks about MTV's plans for their games division, but the most important thing he does is confirm that Rock Band 3 is in development.
Not only that, Guthrie was quoted as saying that Harmonix may begin working on a new "major artist game" as a followup to The Beatles: Rock Band. This jives with the talk of a Rock Band game made entirely of live tracks from Pearl Jam that the band announced a few months ago. Finally, it looks like MTV Games is "looking into" how they can use Microsoft's Project Natal as well. That would certainly make Rock Band 3 very interesting.
Here's the relevant quote from the interview:
MCV: So for those tent pole releases, what happens after The Beatles game Ц what's coming in 2010? Another major artist game? Or Rock Band 3?
Gutrhrie: We're exploring both Ц and possibly will do both. The Harmonix development team are working on what is effectively the next game, or СRock Band 3'. We aren't standing still Ц we will keep moving into new areas and look at new technologies that our platform holder partners are also developing, such as Project Natal from Microsoft. We're working with them to pull some things together. So it's pretty exciting time for the future of our music game business.
We will definitely have more soon.
