News: Batman: Arkham Asylum opens big as well.
The NPD Group has released their report on the bestselling games and consoles in August and, as expected, Madden NFL 10 crossed the goal first in a big way. The perennially selling series racked up three slots in the top ten: #1 (Xbox 360), #3 (PS3) and #6 (PS2). The PSP and Wii versions did not crack the top ten, however, the NPD has revealed the PSP and Wii versions sold 80,000 and 67,000 copies, respectively. All told, the 2010 edition of John Madden Football sold nearly two million copies.
The other big debut during the month of August was Eidos' Batman: Arkham Asylum. The game, which is being called the best Batman game ever, placed at number four (the Xbox 360 version) and number five (the PS3 version). Two other new releases, Dissidia: Final Fantasy (PSP) and Fossil Fighters (DS) landed in the lower half of the top ten.
In hardware news, the PlayStation 3's price cut on August 18 led to big sales for the console, but it still placed behind the DS, Wii and Xbox 360 (though, the Xbox 360 only outsold it by 5,000 consoles).
