News: Steelers safety out 3-6 weeks.
The Madden Cover Curse strikes again.
Troy Polamalu and his Pittsburgh Steelers played the Tennessee Titans in the opening game of the NFL's 2009-2010 season yesterday. And the curse wasting no time laying waste to Polamalu's knee. The star safety (he pulled in a one-handed interception before being injured) sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and will be out for three to six weeks.
While it's easy to blame the injury on the curse, this is not the first time Polamalu has missed significant time. He previously injured his knee in 2007, causing him to miss five games.
Polamalu shares the Madden NFL 10 cover with Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, the first time two players have been featured as co-cover athletes for the game. The Cardinals are scheduled to play the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday.
The only players to escape the Madden Cover Curse has been Ray Lewis (who covered
Madden NFL 2005). Since then, every player featured on the cover (Donovan McNabb, Shaun Alexander, Vince Young and Brett Favre) have all been felled by some type of injury.
We'll have more soon.
