News Round-Up: We take a spin around the Tokyo Game Show and collect all of the hot gaming news that has emerged from across the Pacific this week.
With the "industry" portion of the Tokyo Game Show coming to a close, we take a look at some of the big news stories to emerge from the event...
Capcom, Square Enix, Konami, others working on Project Natal titles...
According to Microsoft, Natal development kits were developed a few days after the project's E3 unveiling and more than a dozen companies have pledged development resources behind titles that will make use of the motion sensor.
Splinter Cell: Conviction coming on February 23...
After years of delays, Ubisoft has announced what (we hope) will be the final release date for
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction. The Ubisoft Montreal-developed game is now scheduled to be released for the PC and Xbox 360 on February 23, 2010. However, unlike those other release dates, Ubisoft announced this one in style at the Tokyo Game Show with a brand new trailer.
God of War Collection will include God of War III demo...
Sony has announced that the E3 2009 demo (which was also on hand at Comic-Con and PAX) of Kratos' first PlayStation 3 adventure will be coming to a PS3 near you. Gamers that purchase a copy of
God of War Collection will receive a voucher code to download the demo off of the PlayStation Store.
Gran Turismo 5 gets a release date in Japan...
Kaz Hirai, the President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Sony Computer Entertainment, gave the keynote speech of the Tokyo Game Show yesterday and in it, he talked about the future of all things PlayStation. But the big reveal was saved for the end when Hirai announced the Japanese release date of
Gran Turismo 5. More than five years in the making, the Polyphony Digital-developed racing simulator will be released in Japan on March 31, 2010.
Launch games for Sony Motion Controller announced...
Sony's still unnamed "Motion Controller" is on track for a Spring 2010 release and Sony has used the Tokyo Game Show to announce a variety of games that will launch alongside it. Sony is currently developing eight titles that will make use of the device, including new entries in the
Ape Escape and Echochrome franchises.
Play the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker demo and watch the new trailer...
Konami made a playable demo of
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP available to the attendees of this year's Tokyo Game Show. However, for those of us who can't just drop everything and fly to Japan, IGN has uploaded the demo to the Internet for your playing pleasure. If that weren't enough, Konami has also put together a new trailer of the game for TGS.
Outside of TGS,
Sony revealed that they currently have no plans to offer a UMD-to-digital conversion program for gamers who upgrade from the PSP to the PSP Go during a conversation with Kotaku.
And while Nintendo did not have a presence at the Tokyo Game Show, their announcement of a
Wii price cut and a release date for New Super Mario Bros. Wii nearly stole the week.
