News: Borderlands debuts strong as well.
The NPD Group has released their report on the bestselling games and consoles in October and Sony's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has taken the top spot. The sequel to one of the PS3's highest rated games has also earned good reviews and sold over 500,000 copies.
Slightly more surprising was the first month sales for Borderlands. The Xbox 360 version of Gearbox Software's FPS/RPG hybrid debuted at number three with sales of over 400,000 copies. The PS3 version did not break into the top ten. NBA 2K10 also launched well (Xbox 360 #5, PS3 #7), shutting rival basketball game NBA Live 10 out of the top ten.
Only three games held over from the September top ten list. They are
Wii Fit Plus (#2),
Wii Sports Resort (#4) and
Halo 3: ODST (#6). Although all three continue to put up strong sales numbers and are probably not leaving the top ten anytime soon.
Finally, here's a fun fact.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sold more copies in a single day in North America (3.47 million) than the entire top ten did during the whole month of October (3.05 million). If nothing else can convince you of Modern Warfare's dominance of the gaming landscape right now, that stat should.
